Profiles of Health

Career pathways

This profile is based on the habits of people who are in the right job and love their work. They have a clear direction as to the course of their career.

Wouldn't it be good to have a job that you loved so much you'd do it for nothing, but which you did so well you'd be paid handsomely? Find that job and both the Buddha and Confucius said you don't have to do another day's work in your life.

Give yourself a score out of ten, appropriate for your performance on each of the ten questions below. A good score is a high score. A poor score is a low score.

1.

Closeness to your ideal job

How close are you to doing the job you'd really love to be doing?

Wouldn't it be good to have a job you love doing so much that you'd do it for nothing, but which you did so well you'd be paid handsomely?

Score '10' if you're there. Score '0' if you don't yet know what you really want to do.

YOUR RESULTS

If you scored more than 70 there is a good chance that you're in the right job for now. You're probably doing what you want to do and the level of support is at least satisfactory.

If you scored less than 70 there is the wisp of a suggestion that you're not in the right job.

If you scored less than 60 there is a high likelihood that you're not in the right job.

This is not always the case. There are some people who have good internal drivers who couldn't care less what other people thought of their work and who don't need constant pats on the head and bags of lollies. However, they're few and far between.

If you scored less than 40 our experience tells us you're definitely not in the right job. It's probably sucking all vitality out of you.

If you're not in the right job, put your thinking cap on. Go to somewhere like http://www.iqtest.com/ and do some IQ and personality tests. Go to your employee assistance program. Talk to your manager. Set yourself a deadline to move somewhere else where you can be richly fulfilled by your career.

If you can find a job that suits your personality and your intelligence strengths and is something you're passionate about, you will, as the Buddha said, not have to do another day's work in your life. Confucius is reported to have said the same thing. If you want to know more about what Confucius said Google 'Confucius say'.
